About
St Mary’s Church was built in 1853 in the gothic style and is erected on the site of a medieval church which was dedicated to St Michael. Still referred to by many as the ‘parish church’ we strive to be a welcoming and supportive place of worship to all who come seeking God. As a community we aim to fulfil our calling to serve the people of Risca and play our part in the wider mission of the Islwyn ministry area.

Today’s Islwyn Ministry Area inherits a thousand years and more of Christian history. For centuries we have carried on the work of God, teaching his Word and values, offering prayer, respite, and hope through our mission and ministry. Our churches may be ancient centres of worship but they remain 21st century resources for our communities.
